M642 and M632 – new crankshaft disc milling concept with radial mounted inserts

m642-m632-new-crankshaft-disc-milling-concept-with-radial-mounted-inserts.jpg

M642 (internal milling) and M632 (external milling) are a new crankshaft disc milling concept with radial mounted inserts.

The design developed for CoroMill® 745 (face milling) resulted in a new method for positioning inserts on cutters. This gave M642 and M632 greater chip room and greater number of effective teeth compared to conventional tangential mounted milling tools.

This new patent pending design results in reduced cycle times and better chip evacuation.

Features and benefits

  • Better chip evacuation due to larger chip room. This results in reduced contact with chips for both the tool and crankshaft, causing less generation of heat
  • A considerable higher number of effective teeth for the same size chip room compared to tangential concept cutters
  • Reduced cycle time compared to tangential concept cutters
  • Good access to the screw through the chip room
  • The back face of the insert is protected by the tip seat with the new design
  • It is possible to press a positive geometry (reducing cutting forces) onto this insert with conventional pressing
  • Low cost per part
  • Predictable performance
