Drilling strategy for deep holes, 6–7×DC

Apply soft entries and exits to maintain the hole tolerance. All recommendations can be found in CoroPlus® ToolGuide.

  1. fn at hole entry: fn × 75%. Length of entry: 1 mm (0.039 inch)
  2. fn at continuous drilling
  3. fn at hole exit: 0.05 mm/rev (0.002 in/rev) or even lower if high demands on hole quality. Length of exit: 3–5 mm (0.118–0.196 inch)

No vc change in the different sections of the hole.

Tool holding

For best possible tool performance, use the high precision drilling interface MDI. The good centring capabilities enables good run-out precision, increased stability and optimal repeatability.

MDI assembly

  1. Remove the nut from the adaptor
  2. Place the slots of the drill where the pins are located on the adaptor
  3. Close the nut and tighten it correctly with a torque wrench

Application tips

Chip control

Chip control

Chip formation and chip evacuation are critical issues in drilling and depend on many different factors. See our best tips on how to achieve good chip control.

Achieving good hole quality

Achieving good hole quality

Achieving good hole quality may require some extra attention. Here you can find some useful tips to get you started.

The position of the locating pins provides exact cutting edge position and a 180° rotation is possible. This can be beneficial in poor machine conditions, for example in misaligned or unstable lathes.

Advanced operations

Advanced operations

Advanced operations such as inclined or curved hole entries, crossing holes and irregular surfaces require extra attention before machining. We have collected useful information to make advanced holes easy.
