Sandvik Coromant in Trondheim gets recognition by the Norwegian government

March 22, 2023
Trondheim, Norway - The Minister of Climate and Environment, Espen Barth Eide, visited Sandvik Coromant in Trondheim on February 22, 2023, to learn more about the company's sustainability initiatives.

On February 22, 2023, Norway's Minister of Climate and Environment, Espen Barth Eide visited Sandvik Coromant in Trondheim (SCT), Norway. Mr. Barth Eide expressed his interest in Sandvik Coromant's sustainability efforts and offered to support our journey towards reducing our environmental footprint.

"We are continuously working toward our sustainability goals to improve the environmental impact of our business. We have adopted a global approach and set targets in line with the Science Based Targets initiatives (SBTi) and prioritised United Nations Sustainable Goals relevant to our industry through several ongoing initiatives within the Sandvik Sustainability Goals and the Sandvik Coromant strategy," Håvard Buhaug, Site Manager Sandvik Coromant Trondheim, said.

“There is no other path to follow besides the one that lead to a more sustainable operation. And if done right, sustainability and profit go hand in hand", Mr. Barth Eide said.

During the visit, Buhaug and his colleagues explained the potential and the current obstacles they face from the linear economy system and their work to unleash the “power of the inner circle".

"We presented the current activity at SCT for reuse of our parts that has the highest CO2 footprint in Silent Tools™, damped boring bars and milling/boring adaptors. The Minister showed great interest in the work we do," Buhaug said.

The challenges explained were well known from a macro perspective. And this case from SCT was one of the best examples, pinpointing in detail the challenges, the potential, and power of the inner circle when released on a big scale, Buhaug explained.

Beside the product aspect, the way Sandvik Coromant in Trondheim uses the Green Factory assessment tool to minimize environmental footprint and optimize operations was acknowledged and appreciated by the Minister.

There is a lot of work ahead to become fully circular, but Sandvik Coromant Trondheim has achieved a lot so far.
